Sources of Affiliate Programs

Signing up to affiliate programs is key if you don’t have your own store but you want to make money from your Instagram feed. Joining the various schemes is usually very easy, but there are a couple of things to do before you get started.

Firstly, make sure that your feed is full of quality content. A lot of affiliate programs want proof that they will make money from your site or feed, so making sure that your profile looks busy is key to gaining approval.

Once you have filled your feed, you should use your shareable Shopthisfeed link when it asks for your website address in the application process.

The second step is to make sure that your content shows plenty of products. This is to help you through the application process, by demonstrating to the company the many opportunities to sell there are with your profile. If your feed doesn’t normally contain lots of products, but you still want to join an affiliate program, then consider reorganising your pictures to put the products at the top, at least for duration of the application process.

Here are the major programs you might want to join.

Amazon

Amazon is the best affiliate program to join if you are just getting started. That is because of the huge range of products it carries, and the fact you receive a payout when someone buys any product via your image, not just the one that you specifically linked to. You can even send customers to the Amazon homepage, rather than to a particular product. As long as your affiliate code is in the link, you will get a share of anything your customers buy during that session.

Amazon also offers different programs for users all around the world, and a simple search for “Amazon Associates” should bring up your local scheme.

Clickbank

Clickbank is an affiliate program that allows you to promote a product based on how much the company is willing to pay. There is no application process; instead, you search for a product from a range of categories, check how much that retailer is willing to pay per sale, and promote accordingly. You then get the affiliate link, which you can build into your feed. This way you earn a set amount per sale, rather than a percentage of that transaction.

Clickbank is only for virtual products and services, not tangible ones, but the model of allowing you to promote the product that yields the most money is a great way to earn more from your feed.

Rakuten Marketing

Rakuten is similar to Amazon, in that it is a website for other companies to sell on. The affiliate program works in much the same way too. You promote a product on your page, and for every purchase driven via your feed, you receive a percentage of the sale.

LEGO

LEGO is a very easy-to-use affiliate program. You earn 3% of every sale, with an average sale price of $123. There is no monthly minimum and there is a very low rate of customers returning items, making it a great way to earn money if your feed contains LEGO.

eBay

It’s less well known that eBay has an affiliate program. However, the sheer range of products available on the site makes it a lucrative opportunity. When you refer to eBay you earn between 50%-70% of eBay’s revenue on that sale. Generally, eBay makes 10% of the sale price, giving you 5%-7% of the total sale price of the item - a higher amount than with lot of other sites.

Other Sites

There are many more affiliate programs than you might realize. If you’re not sure, have a search for the site you want to promote, add the word “affiliates” and you might be surprised. Remember that companies can spend millions on marketing, so it is in their interest to have you advertise for them, and that is why they are willing to pay handsomely for your promotion.
